Bags were added in the Gloomrot expansion, but reworked in Update 1.0. They increase the player's inventory space.
All bags after 
Silver Thread Bag give some 
Silver Coin Carry Immunity. Most are crafted at the 
Leatherworking Station (with the exception of 
Bandit Bag).
